Vegan Ireland speaks with Cruelty-Free Cosmetics’s co-founder,Josephine Maher. Cruelty Free Cosmetics is an Ireland based online shop selling vegan cosmetics.

Please tell us about Cruelty Free Cosmetics. When did it begin and what motivated you to start this business?

Cruelty Free Cosmetics was launched in 2014, the reason being that I personally found it near impossible to purchase cosmetics that I knew were 100% not tested on animals. There was one company whose products I used to use but I had since heard that they sell their products to China, so because of Chinese laws they eventually would be tested on them.

Cruelty Free Cosmetics It was because of this that I decided that people needed to be able to purchase cruelty free cosmetics easily and have no doubt that no animals had to be harmed to make them. Hence the reason why I decided to only sell vegan cosmetics so that everyone would have again, no doubt that what they were purchasing was 100% cruelty free. The other main reason why I set up the business was to create awareness as to what happens to animals in laboratories on a daily basis all around the world. The use of animals to make cosmetics is completely unnecessary and we hope that by people purchasing from us and telling their friends, that one day that this will be outlawed completely.

Can you give us a quick summary of each brand you sell?

Absolutely. Currently we sell six brands but due to popular demand we will shortly be expanding our range of skincare products and have two more vegan businesses lined up.

Emani Cosmetics are 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Their products are also 100% talc-free and paraben-free. Their mineral makeup is natural using organic ingredients and is high performing with long-lasting wear. Their products are also free of petrochemicals and irritants and they are packaged in recycled and biodegradable paper.

Beauty Without Cruelty products are again 100% suitable for vegans and vegetarians and are completely cruelty free. The company is also caring to the environment by using recycled materials where possible and finding methods of sourcing, which minimize our footprint on our planet. They also use natural pure ingredients so their products are considered one of the most successful for sensitive skin, being hypoallergenic and fragrance free throughout.

BiOrganics carefully formulated hair products do not contain any harmful, unnecessary chemicals. They develop hair care products that consist mainly of naturally occurring ingredients with soothing, moisturising and repairing natural properties that are gentle on the hair and scalp. Again their products are vegan and not tested on animals.

Eco Minerals vegan makeup is the eco-friendly mineral makeup. They are passionate about making a positive difference to our environment. A true green beauty brand that cares for our planet with safe, natural products and eco-friendly packaging. Most labels are biodegradable and all shipping materials are recycled and biodegradable. They use local products and services to create ECO minerals and have ideas to get even greener!

Fairypants are a small UK business that produce only vegan cosmetics. We are currently stocking their skin balms and their lip balms and scrubs. In the future we will be stocking their nail varnishes too.

Adorn Cosmetics are non-toxic and natural using pure mineral and organic ingredients. All their products are cruelty free and are not tested on animals. The company is both PETA and Vegan registered.

What products do you sell and which one is the most popular?

We sell makeup, hair products, skincare products, nail varnish and accessories. Our most popular range is Emani Vegan Cosmetics. Their range is not only beautiful on the skin and to the skin but their packaging is gorgeous too.

Can your products be ordered outside of Ireland?

Yes absolutely. We ship worldwide.

Anything else at all you’d like to say or add?

Yes, I would just like to let your readers know that we have recently uploaded a video on our website, that not only introduces them to our business but also gives them information and facts about animal testing. I would be delighted if people would take 10 minutes out of their day to watch it as information is key to making changes to the world we live in and to aide in abolishing animal testing for cosmetics.
